Xantoné Blacq presents: Xantoné Blacq’s Magic 8’s

What do Amy Winehouse, Randy Brecker, Earth Wind & Fire, Jessie J, Mark Ronson, Laura Mvula, Nigel Kennedy, Pee Wee Ellis, Jason Rebello, Candi Staton and Paul Jackson Trio have in common?

They have all relied on Xantoné Blacq’s (pron. Zan-Toe-Nay) Voice, Keyboard and Percussion playing in their bands so it’s no surprise that his music is of a super high level.

Ever asked yourself what it would sound like if a modern day musical Cyborg / Terminator was created fusing Stevie Wonder’s soulfulness and vocal style with Herbie Hancock’s funky keyboard playing and Quincy Jones’ mind for musical arrangement?

Listen to Xan’s albums, To The Heavens And Beyond and Revelation or go to one of his gigs and you’ll have the answer!

Born in Lagos, Nigeria his music always retains the rhythmic excitement of Africa and in line with his personality, his music is bright, full of colour and uplifting.
So far in this year alone, Xan has performed in Denmark, Korea, Brazil, Italy, Switzerland, France, Slovakia and is set to perform in Poland, Germany, Bulgaria and many more places.

To The Heavens And Beyond and Revelation are both available for download
from all major retailers.

Funk, Jazz and Classical, musicians all have great things to say about Xantoné Blacq

Chosen twice by iTunes as Staff Favourite.

Voted no.31 in top 100 tunes of the year – Gilles Peterson’s BBC RADIO 1 listeners.

“Listened to Xan’s playing with a smile! It’s hip, classy, sexy – a whole lotta fun to listen to.” “Pee Wee” Ellis.

“Xan Captures the tradition of great groove. He’s soulful, musical and skilful. Bravo!” Patrice Rushen.
“It would be difficult to find a more generous and talented musician than Xantoné
Blacq”. Nigel Kennedy.

Doors open 7pm, music starts 8pm.

Jazz at Karamel: Profiles of Mingus

Chris Biscoe (alt sax, alt cl), Henry Lowther (tpt, fglhorn), Pete Hurt (ten sax), Malcolm Earle – Smith (tmb), Kate Williams (p), Larry Bartley (b), Stu Butterfield (d)
“Biscoe’s sparkling arrangements and splendid playing vividly capture Minus’s sprawling, rumbustious energy, while giving the music a fresh twist” – Kenny Mathieson
“The album’s almost worth it for Boogie Stop Shuffle alone, one of Mingus’s most deviously funky themes” – John Fordham, The Guardian

This band is the current incarnation of a Mingus Moves, a flexible workshop ensemble established by Chris Biscoe in 1996. Henry Lowther and Stu Butterfield were also founder members. When this band takes off, hold on to your seats!
