Liz Sutherland Exhibition

Exhibition running in Karamel from 23rd September to 28th October (Private View: 13th October from 6pm)

In the last three years local artist, Liz Sutherland, has been exploring the theme of Alexandra Palace and Park and has built up an impressive body of work which includes the iconic building of Ally Pally and its beautiful surrounding parkland spaces. Just in time for the news of the regeneration of the iconic building’s theatre, Sutherland has launched an exhibition with these works at local arts venue, Karamel.

A painter who makes vivacious studies of the figure, cityscapes and landscape mainly working in oils on canvas and mixed media on paper she reduces a scene down to its essence and then records this with a bold use of colour and form. She uses charcoal and iPad sketches made in situ to inspire her oil paintings, which she then develops further in her studio. The fluid and expressive nature of her iPad sketches has influenced her recent work, as can be seen in the painting of ‘Alexandra Palace from below’ where she uses loose sweeping brush strokes and bold colourful shapes to describe the trees and shapes of the buildings.

For the last twelve years she has been part of the Chocolate Factory Open Studios in Wood Green where she has a studio and will be moving to the new Chocolate Factory 3 in October.
