Haringey Youth Festival 2022

On Saturday 29th October 2022, Collage Arts hosted the 10th Haringey Youth Festival, bringing together young people from across the borough from Jacksons Lane, Haringey Shed and Collage Voices. Participants took part in an art workshop led by professional artist Damel Carayol experimenting with paint and collage to create an artwork together that was hung on the wall that afternoon for them and their families to see. They also transformed into an impromptu choir by musician Terry Tetteh-Martey in a singing workshop.

Improving access to the arts has been at the very heart of this festival from its inception. It has always been free to attend, even when there has been no additional external funding available over the last few years. Giving participants the chance to meet other young people and try out something new alongside the opportunity to showcase their talent in performance in one of the borough’s vibrant art spaces is integral to the event. Attendees over the years have participated in a variety of workshops such as body percussion, fine art, singing, street dance, circus skills and spoken word from different facilitators and organisations including Frantic Assembly and Zoonation.

Catherine West MP who came to the event said: “What a fantastic celebration of 10 years of the #HaringeyYouthFestival. There is so much talent and creativity in the borough and I loved Saturday’s performance by young people from Collage Arts, Haringey Shed and Jacksons Lane. It’s absolutely vital that everyone has access to the arts and that arts education in our schools is properly funded and supported.”
