zerOclassikal is back with Free Flow Classikal on popular demand – this time with bansuri player Kate Hogg, tabla artist Sanju Sahai and Jazz pianist Mark Edwards. The trio will perform free improvisations based on a range of Ragas along with a selection of original Jazz Ballads played on the bansuri.

Kate Hogg is a Bansuri player, who studied North Indian classical and jazz music at the Rotterdam music conservatory in the Netherlands, following a concert by the master bansuri player, Hariprasad Chaurasia from North India. After receiving a Develop Your Creative practice grant from the Arts Council England in 2021, Kate has been working with Mark Edwards on creating improvised and arranged music with the Bansuri. Kate continues to work with a senior disciple of Hariprasad Chaurasia (Debopriya Chatterjee) in India, to increase her understanding of the traditional genre. She also performs and records as a multi-instrumentalist on flutes and saxes in jazz and world music ensembles on the south coast of England.

Sanju Sahai is an international tabla artist belonging to the Benares Gharana and being the 6th generation of tabla players in the lineage. Son of legendary Pandit Sharda Sahai, he has accompanied many of India’s legendary musicians and dancers, such as Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia (Bansuri), Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma (Santoor). He has and continues to collaborate with various international artists from around the globe such as: Manuela Carrasco (Flamenco dance), Michael Nyman (British Composer), Akram Khan (Dancer) and Anoushka Shankar (composer).

Mark Edwards is a Jazz pianist, producer and composer, with several albums to his own name including “In Deep”, produced by four time Grammy Nominated/Brit Award winning producer James McMillan, and “Sawdust and Spangles” featuring his eclectic project “The Cloggz”. On the Jazz scene, Mark has worked with top U.K. and U.S. names, including Johnny Dankworth, Bobby Wellins, Scott Hamilton and Ken Peplowski.
