From the valleys of South Wales, Shmedic sets off for medical school in the hope of saving lives…

Particularly that of her younger brother Chuk, from sickle cell.

But when a night shift from hell and an untimely encounter with a dead body turns her whole life upside down, who will save her?

We meet Shmedic mid therapy session, in a desperate bid to clear her name.

Flashbacks of a not so sunny childhood and a tumultuous time at medical school, reveal a stark contrast to the exemplary ‘NHS hero’ she so proudly claims to be. If superpowers and extra resilience were handed out at graduation… well… she must have missed that part.

Will anyone stand at the door to clap when the mask slips, and all that’s left is a bit of a Shmedic?

Exploring themes of mental health and identity with a comedic edge, this debut one woman play by doctor turned writer and actress Dr Sara Otung brings a new voice to the stage.
